Kiev, May 9, (dpa/GNA) - Ukraine is already part of the free world, while Moscow is isolated, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday.
Zelensky cited the symbolic power of visits to Kiev by internationally prominent guests including US first lady Jill Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, U2 singer Bono and German Bundestag President Bärbel Bas on the anniversary of the end of World War II 77 years ago.
"I am sure that this day in Ukraine has shown that we are already a full-fledged part of the free world and a united Europe," Zelensky said in a video address, according to a transcript published by the presidential office.
"This is an obvious contrast to Moscow's loneliness in evil and hatred that everyone will see tomorrow," Zelensky added, referring to Russia's Victory Day celebrations due to take place on Monday in Moscow.
"Russia has forgotten everything that was important to the victors of World War II," Zelensky said.
"I am grateful to all our defenders who are defending and saving Ukraine from the modern descendants of that old evil," he said, drawing a parallel between Moscow and Nazi Germany.
