Ho Technical University wins Institutional Awards

Ho (VR), Nov. 16, GNA - The Ho Technical University (HTU) has won some key Institutional Awards in local and international competitions since the beginning of the year.







Among the awards are the 2021 WorldSkills Ghana National Competition, 2021 Virtual Edition of Hacklab Foundation’s Hackathon Competition, Virtual Formula One Competition, Virtual All-Asian DX Contest, International Virtual Entrepreneurship Competition organised by the Han University of Applied Sciences, NL, and Research of Faculty.

Professor Ben Honyenuga, Vice-Chancellor of the University, announced this during an engagement with the media on the achievements chalked by the institution over the period.

On tertiary institution ranking in Ghana, he said, the current ranking of the University was an indication they were steadily making progress in their bid to achieve institutional excellence, nationally and globally.

“First, I am happy to state that the Ho Technical University has been ranked the ninth-best tertiary institution in Ghana in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities released in the second half of the year 2021.

Our current ranking is a laudable achievement worth celebrating because in the year 2019 we were in the 30s and 2020, we were in the 20s,” he stated.

At the 2021 WorldSkills Ghana National Competition, which was held in Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), the HTU presented 10 students and six Compatriot Experts (CE) from five trade areas, Electrical Installation, Fashion Technology, IT Business Solutions, Cooking and Graphic Design Technology.

“l am proud to state that our students excelled and showed class in all the areas; first and second in Fashion Technology, first in Graphic Design Technology, first, second, third and fourth in IT and Business Solutions, second in Electrical Installations and finally second and third in Cooking.”

Under the 2021 Virtual Edition of Hacklab Foundation's Hackathon Competition, students from the University excelled in the following categories, Best Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution in Agriculture, Best AI in Communication, and Best AI solution in Mobility.

"Our friends from the Press, we wish to point out that per a collaborative arrangement with the Rhine- Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW), Germany, a team of thirteen students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, christened the " HTU Racing Team," participated in the 2021 Edition of the Virtual Formula One competition organised by the VI-grade, a Motorsport simulation software provider.



The HTU Racing Team occupied the 25th position out of a total of 129 teams from various participating Universities across the world."

Further, Professor Honyenuga said the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was placed first in Ghana and Africa in a virtual All-Asian DX Contest organised by the Japan Amateur Radio League.

Another Competition, he said, was the International Virtual Entrepreneurship organised by the Han University of Applied Sciences this year with a key focus on the generation and pitching of business ideas towards poverty eradication where the HTU emerged as the overall winner out of twelve groups that presented their business ideas.

In addition, Professor Honyenuga revealed, the research of Faculty was also on the rise where Dr Richard Turkson, of the HTU, was acknowledged among the first twenty researchers in Ghana in the recent 2021 AD Scientific Index of Top Universities in Ghana.

He said with the support of the Governing Council, the University would continue to ensure that their students and graduates compare favourably with their colleagues worldwide.

"It is our hope that our students and faculty would continue to excel in their various fields of endeavour to deepen our reputation as the reference point of Technical Education in Ghana and beyond."

Professor Honyenuga commended Faculty, Staff and Awardees for making the University proud.

Present at the engagement were the Deans and Heads of Department as well as the student awardees.
