Sleep Under LLI Mosquito Nets To Prevent Malaria - Student Advises

Adaklu Kodzobi (V/R), Nov. 15 GNA - Ms Laura Sefah Bosompem, a level 400 Medical student of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho on Monday advised Ghanaians to use the free Long Lasting Insecticide Mosquito nets given out to them for it intended purpose.

She said it was only through sleeping under the nets coupled with keeping the environment clean that malaria cases could be reduced, if not eradicated.

Ms Bosompem who is also the leader of a nine-member medical students team from UHAS gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Adaklu Kodzobi in the Adaklu District.

The students who were in the community on a nine-day medical outreach programme screened the people free of charge.

Ms Bosompem also advised them to use long clothing and also use mosquito repellants whilst outside in the evenings.

She appealed to them to always cover all waters stored for use so that it doesn’t become breeding grounds for mosquitoes".

Ms Bosopem praised the people for keeping the community clean and urged them to keep it up.

Mr Delali Dogbevi, a member of the team said the outreach programme would offer them the opportunity to know where their would-be patients live and how the environment affected them.

He said it would also allow identifying some of the salient problems affecting people living in the rural areas and how best to find solutions to them.

They later joined the community in a cleanup exercise.
